"The Translator"

The Sunday (3/16) Star-Ledger featured an interview with a tribesman and former translator from Darfur who now lives in Baltimore. He has written a memoir entitled "The Translator" (Random House, $23).

I'm adding this one to my summer reading list. In the newspaper interview, he was asked what individuals could do to stop the killings in Darfur. His responded that Americans should boycott the Olympics in China (I think it will be in Beijing). His quote from the Ledger interview: "The Chinese give the Sudanese the weapons necessary to wipe out villages and kill children. China needs the oil, and they see the Sudan as a "land of treasure"....
I have heard rumblings of this from celebrities, such as Steven Spielberg, but the reporting of the reasoning hasn't been clear. Interesting.

That sounds interesting. Something from the point of view of someone who was there. I think I will check to see if my library has it, so I can read it when I get a chance.
